About LATV
The Leominster Telecommunications Corporation Inc. (LTC) is
an independent non-profit 501(C)(3) organization. The LTC
operates Leominster Access Television (LATV) which oversees
the PEG (public, educational and government) access channels
on the cable television system in Leominster, Massachusetts.
As part of this responsibility LATV will provide:
1. Access to production resources, and production equipment.
2. Training and technical assistance in the use of cable
television production equipment.
3. Cable broadcast time on the public access, educational
and governmental access channels.

|
Our mission is twofold.
First and foremost:
To provide all citizens and institutions located in
Leominster with the equipment, training, and cable broadcast
time to realize their potential in the medium of cable
television; and at the same time, encouraging and empowering
the individual, and the community by ensuring First
Amendment expression through the utilization of television
technology.”
Secondly:
LATV is actively involved with the restoration and
preservation of all still images, moving images, and sound
recordings of the Central Massachusetts area. With the
cooperation and assistance of other historical preservation
groups, we are creating a regional media archive and
preservation center to catalogue, and provide a means of
access to these valuable historical resources. Individual
and institutional researchers and scholars will be able to
utilize this collection for research and educational
purposes deemed appropriate by the directors of LATV.

Background
Television is one of the most powerful mediums
around, yet it’s fair to say that most of us are
shaped by television, rather than helping to shape
it. Public access television offers a real
alternative – a unique, powerful venue for citizen
expression and community dialogue. Unlike broadcast
television, public access programming reflects the
diversity, interests and viewpoints of people in a
given community – because it’s created by people in
the community.
Leominster Access Television (LATV) is a non-profit,
membership-based organization offering public access
television services to the Leominster community. The
mission of Leominster Access Television is to
strengthen our community by using public access
television to: facilitate the sharing of
information, enhance community dialogue, encourage
individual and artistic expression, create an
awareness of local interests, views and cultures,
provide a vehicle for collaborative problem-solving,
& promote community involvement
LATV teaches television production workshops, trains
and certifies community members to use the equipment
and facilities, and cablecasts the resulting
programs on cable Channel 8. LATV staff serves as
facilitators of community television production,
enabling Leominster citizens to take television into
their own hands.

Training Classes
We are proud to offer the Leominster community a
variety of classes to teach you about television.
Whether you want to create your own television
program, help somebody with theirs, or just learn
how television is produced, we can show you how it's
done!
Classes are
FREE with your
annual membership!
If you're new to LATV, then we require you to take
the Basic Production Workshop before you may take
out equipment, then you may take any or all of the
other classes at your own pace!
LATV’s training program is now geared toward helping
people develop specific projects. When a member asks
for training, we ask what they want to do. We then
arrange for training on a one-to-one basis if
possible, in those specific areas that are currently
most important to their project development. We want
them to be developing a project or training to help
another producer with a production.
We believe that people will be more successful if
they receive training that is relevant to something
they are committed to doing. To that end, we won’t
schedule folks into a training class unless it is
something they really need to complete a project
they’ve started or to train as a crew member for
another producer. In other words, we won’t register
you for that edit class if what you really need is
training in the studio.
Classes currently available are as follows:
» Basic Production
Workshop
» Digital Field
Production
» Studio Production
» Non-Linear Editing
» Class registration may
be made in person or by telephone,
however voice mail and e-mail registration messages are not
accepted.
